报告摘要：

Approximately 11% people in both US and China are diabetics. Among them, about 90% suffers type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The cost of health is huge. It is believed that type 2 diabetes is caused by the failure of insulin compensation, which is resulted from the apoptosis of beta-cells. Thus it is significant to prevent the death of beta-cells. We formulate a fast-slow system and demonstrated that the intermittent rest of insulin secretion might help beta-cells to survive.

报告人简介：　　

李嘉旭，博士，1982年毕业于吉林大学数学系本科，1988年获大连理工大学硕士学位，2004年获亚利桑那州立大学应用数学博士学位，目前任路易维尔大学数学系教授。李嘉旭博士的学科研究方向是建立和分析有关糖尿病的数学模型以及有关基因分化的数学模型。他的研究成果已在相关领域达到国际领先水平。
